Tehran (ISNA) – Hosted by Navy of Islamic Republic of Iran Army, the 6th Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) kicked off in Tehran on Monday morning.
Chief of General Staff of Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Deputy Coordinator of the Iranian Army Habibollah Sayyari, Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi and a number of other senior Iranian military officials are taking part in the event.
As the largest military symposium in Iran’s history, Indian Ocean Naval Symposium is composed of 23 permanent members including Iran, and 9 other countries with observer status.
Five rounds of the symposium have earlier been held in a number of countries over the past years, and now the sixth round is being held in Tehran.
The two-day event is gathering 35 high-ranking military delegations from across the world, including India, Turkey, and Australia./End Item
